Universal Design for Learning
Universal Design for Learning is guided by a set of principles for the curriculum to provide all students with an equal opportunity to learn. This website has the purpose to explain and guide you through creating instructional goals, finding and understanding methods, materials, and assessment that work for every individual. The links provided here will take you to discover and learn about a flexible instructional approach that can be modified for each individual needs.
UDL Principles and Guidelines
Universal Design for Learning is based on three important principles that allow for flexibility and choice within the learning process:
These principles are intended to be considered proactively, as you are designing your lesson, in order to help all students become "expert learners." This video describes each of the three broad principles of UDL. |

Each of the three principles of UDL are broken down into three guidelines. Within each of the guidelines are checkpoints. The checkpoints are concrete strategies and suggestions for teachers to consider as they design their instruction within the UDL framework. In this video, Dr. David Rose, Center Director of the National Center on UDL, takes us through the three principles, the UDL guidelines, and the checkpoints.
After viewing the video, read on to see the UDL principles, guidelines, and checkpoints in their entirety. |
